Dealing Competently with a Person at Risk
Is someone you know suffering from a life crisis? Are you worried that this could lead to suicide?
With the high expectations of performance associated with university life, crises can arise and become far too much for the persons concerned – and for the people around them – to manage alone. This is when help from outside is required.
A crisis can become so deep that thoughts of suicide or even suicidal action threaten. Such a situation demands decisive intervention by members of the person’s community.
Within UZH and ETHZ, a network of “active observers” has been established in order to recognize distressing situations in a person’s life and to alleviate risks by knowing how to address the affected person in a competent manner.
